The terrace through the gardens up to the tower Tour Magne Some of the steps up to the top of the tower. Thankfully only two of the three levels remained Views of Nimmes from the tower View into the palace. We didn't want to pay the fee to go in The old castle Cute dog Streets of the city Wall art One of the cut stones in the museum (where photos were forbidden) First views of the Pont du Gard (bridge over the Gardon river) It was quite large as can be seen by the little person under the arch Distance to some of the places the aquaduct had to go to/from The path through the hill... then over the Pont du Gard The Gardon river. The water was amazing Numbered markings showing which order the blocks were to be placed in
One of the many brave ducks swimming in the icy water The lush canyon on the other side of the tunnel A glimpse of St Peters Basilica from the Vatican Museum Contemporary art within the grounds of the Vatican Some of the many museum pieces within. This one was getting a little TLC Ceilings leading to the Sistine chapel A (dark) view of the crowds heading toward the chapel Some of the many detailed tapestries along the way More ceiling art. This was amazing due to it appear to be sculpted but was in fact just painted on. This hallway contained painted maps of areas throughout Italy ending with this complete one. The accuracy of the maps (created hundreds of years ago) is almost perfect. Entrance to St Peters Basilica The Pietà statue carved by Michelangelo The high ceilings of the basilica. The dimensions of everything were deceiving. St. Peter's baldachin Swiss guards of the Vatican city St Peter's square, currently filled with chairs for the (final) speech from the pope. Bernini made the centre curved to make it appear as if the monuments were smaller than they actually were St Peter's Basilica Outside the colosseum. Bigger than the arena in Nimmes but lots of missing pieces... The underground rooms and tunnels where the animals were kept. The wooden floor of the arena has been partially reconstructed in the background. A gladiator about to fight More bits of columns that should have been holding things up. Mosaic tile art Colosseum showing the decking, animal tunnels, as well as where part of the upper area had either been torn down or fallen during an earthquake View from the colosseum of more ruins The crane (and people) give an indication about the size of the arena Entrance to the Palatine and Roman Forums The stadium of the Palatino No go zone due to ongoing archaeological research Marble floor still enduring the test of time Exhibition explaining Italian fascism and racism Piazza della Repubblica
